My Story

How I got here…

Over the years I’ve spent on this earth I’ve worn many a hats. I’ve been a mother, a daughter, a student, a teacher, a business owner, a merchant, a partner, a friend, a caregiver and probably a few others I’m forgetting. I was born in Philadelphia where I was blessed with a mother who was able to afford me a very good private school education. I was raised in the church, to which I credit my life long search for a deep spiritual connection. In 2002 I left the city for a life in the country and in 2004 I gave birth to the first of my three children.

I’d spent my motherhood a single mom, running several successful small businesses. This gave me the flexibility I looked for as my children were young and the ability to prioritize being a mother and available whenever I was needed. As the years grew on my businesses grew and my children needed me less and less. Life, as it does became routine and demanding. Full of stress and overwhelming obligations.

In May of 2020 my mother became terminally ill. We made the decision that rather than go back to work when the world began to reopen, I would remain home as my mother’s caregiver. It was the best year of my life. Full of uncertainty, hurdles, learning experiences, and hardships, it was also filled with millions of emotions, growth, laughter and mostly immeasurable love. In May of 2021 my mother passed away leaving me with the most peculiar mix of feelings. Comfort, peace and love mixed with fear, confusion and loneliness. She was the only person who was always there and I was left without an anchor.

My mother always told me to follow my dreams but I always knew that she needed me as much as I needed her. One night, just days after she passed, I had a dream. In the dream she came to me and the showed me the arrow of Sagittarius. Being the sign of travel, learning and philosophy I took this as a sign. Ever song I was a little girl I wanted to see the world but had very little opportunity to do so in my life. I woke from that dream feeling an incredible sense of knowing that she had been with me and that her message, her wish for me, was that now that she no longer needed me, it was time to pursue my dream to explore the world gathering stories, experiences and connecting with people from all walks of life.

Which brings me here. The world we live in will never be the same as it once was. The lasting transformation we’ve all experienced these past few years has served to usher us into growth and change. These past years I’ve learned the value of each day. The value of opportunity and the beauty of surrounding ourselves with people who light up our soul. With 40 looming around the next corner, this is where my journey begins. Now that I have new eyes, I will explore with renewed vision.

This is my journey…
